TRISD Board members along with Valero representatives held a ground breaking ceremony for the new Valero Vocational Agricultural Science Building last Wednesday, April 23.
The ceremony began with TRISD Superintendent Mac Johanson giving the opening remarks followed by FFA Vice-President, Amber Jenkins leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
FFA President, Caleb Orsak said, “Today is a secial day for our school, a day in which we break ground on improved opportunities for the students of this district. Almost two years of planning were finally made real.”
Orsak continued by recognizing two former TRHS ag teachers, Donald Kasper and Ray Briscoe, as well as the current ag teacher, “. . .my dad, Mr. Buddy Orsak. . . These men have trained hundreds of young men and women from our community in such areas as welding, woodworking, the raising of livestock and crops, and ag business.”
Orsak closed by recognizing Valero for their generous donation. “[In a] rural community, agriculture and vocational skills are important. . . this facility will give us the ability to continue to impart knowledge for years to come.”
Johanson introduced the board of trustees and administrators. Johanson recognized Valero representatives: Vice-President and General Manager Harry Wright, Director of Refinery Operations Allen Weber, Director of Refinery Maintenance Kirk Mirkovich, and Manager of Refinery Human Resources Ann Janson.
Orsak and the other members of FFA presented Wright with a plaque of a gold plated shovel mounted on wood. Johanson presented each board member and Valero with a gold shovel for the ground breaking.
The ceremony closed with a catered picnic.
